October 2025 - Help Shape IMUA’s Future - Join the IMUA Board of Directors
As we look ahead to 2026, I’m excited to announce that IMUA is opening the application process for our next class of Board members. For the first time, any IMUA member is invited to directly apply, whether you’ve served before, recently rotated off, or are considering board service for the first time.
This open process grew directly out of the recommendations of the Governance Subcommittee earlier this year, which encouraged us to make board participation more accessible and transparent. It’s an important step toward ensuring that IMUA’s leadership continues to reflect the diversity, talent, and energy of the entire inland marine community.
Serving on the IMUA Board is both a privilege and a responsibility. Our Board members provide key governance as we look to advance our mission. Board members help shape IMUA’s strategy, guide our educational programming, and ensuring that our work continues to strengthen the industry as a whole.
But beyond what Board service means to IMUA, it’s also deeply meaningful for those who serve. For some, it’s a way to give back to an industry that has given them so much throughout their careers. For others earlier in their journey, it’s a way to develop leadership experience and take on responsibilities that may not yet be available in their current roles. And for many, it’s the opportunity to collaborate with other passionate, like-minded professionals who are shaping the future of inland marine insurance together.
Board members serve a three-year term and are expected to actively participate in quarterly meetings in New York City, our Annual Meeting in April, and committee initiatives throughout the year. Engagement, collaboration, and advocacy are at the heart of this role. We’re looking for individuals who are ready to contribute ideas, lead efforts, and help champion IMUA’s mission within their companies and networks.
Applications will be reviewed by a Nominating Committee composed of Sharon Primerano, Jessica Frankovich, Lillian Colson, and myself, with recommendations presented to the Board for approval.
- Application deadline: January 9, 2026
- Notification of selection: No later than April 17, 2026
If you’ve ever thought about becoming more involved, now is the time. IMUA’s continued success depends on the engagement and leadership of members like you—those willing to share their expertise, represent their peers, and help guide where we go next.
I hope you’ll consider applying and joining us in shaping the future of IMUA.
Thanks,
Matt Derrick
