Professional Bio
Alexander McGinley embarked on his insurance career in 1996 as an underwriter specializing in inland marine, ocean marine, and property at The Hartford. He held various underwriting and management roles in San Francisco, Sacramento, and San Antonio before transitioning to the Home Office, where he ultimately became the Chief Underwriting Officer for Marine. During his tenure, he spearheaded diversification efforts into renewable energy, logistics, and other industries.
In 2011, Alexander joined XL Insurance (AXA) as the Head of Underwriting Operations, Product, and Strategy for Marine. His notable achievements include the development of over two dozen new products, the implementation of a quote-bind-issue system, and the increase in underwriter productivity. He also contributed to special projects such as the propensity-to-bind platform and assessing the impact of driverless vehicles on inland marine insurance.
In 2024, Alexander took on dual roles as Executive Vice President at the Property & Marine Insurance Commission (PMIC) and National Director of Product & Strategy at the U.S. Marine Insurance Group (USMIG). He is currently dedicated to creating new products and services for PMIC’s subscribers and expanding USMIG’s business.
Alexander has been featured in major news outlets like A.M. Best, Independent Agent Magazine, The Hartford Courant, and The Wall Street Journal, discussing various aspects of inland marine insurance. He hosted the “Ask Me About Marine Insurance” podcast series and has spoken at numerous conferences about the impact of driverless vehicles on inland marine insurance. Additionally, he has served on advisory committees for ISO, AAIS, and The Institutes.
An active member of IMUA, Alexander, has served on the Board and the National Education Committee. He was a guest speaker at the 2017 Annual IMUA Meeting and is a recipient of the Excellence in Education Award.
