Regional Committee Connection

By Kevin OBrien, IMUA President & CEO

IMUA President & CEO Kevin O'Brien comments on attending the New England Advisory Committee's recent seminar.
In late June I attended the second education and networking event sponsored by the newly formed IMUA New England Advisory Committee. The event was held at a terrific venue, a restaurant overlooking the harbor in downtown Boston. There was a little concern about attracting folks to an education session after work on a beautiful summer evening. Through the diligent efforts of the committee members, we attracted just under fifty inland marine professionals to the session. Following an opening reception, Eric Olsen and Rich Scott from Chubb did an excellent presentation on builders risk loss control issues. Many of the folks in attendance commented on how nice it was to have the opportunity to both mingle with industry peers and learn some insightful risk management strategies.

The Regional Advisory Committees are a vital part of IMUA. With eight groups in key regions throughout the country, they provide a great forum for enhancing the professional development of our industry. Whether its trading war stories and news with industry friends and peers, or gleaning knowledge from the education events, theyre valued opportunities. My hat is off to all the committee members that make it happen! Were lucky to have so many talented people volunteer their planning, organizing and executing skills to produce such fine programs. I encourage you to get involved in a regional group if you have not yet done so. Sure its an opportunity to give back to the industry, however, theres also something in it for your professional development on a number of fronts.

IMUA currently has active regional committees in the following regions:

- Great Lakes Columbus, OH
- Midwest Chicago, IL
- New England Boston, MA
- North Central St. Paul, MN
- Northeast New York, NY
- Pacific Northwest San Francisco/Seattle
- Southeast Atlanta, GA
- Southwest Dallas, TX

Please e-mail Lillian Colson (lcolson@imua.org) to join a regional committee.
