Moving Forward
Welcome to the first addition of our new blog – Moving Forward. We are all very excited about bringing you information to help you on your path to excellence within the inland marine industry. Our blog is dedicated to your professional development.
This is an exciting time to be part of a group of professionals representing the inland marine insurance industry. While we may be viewed as a relatively small line of business within the Property & Casualty insurance industry, as the recent December 2013Best's Review article, entitled Moving Along, says, “don't let its size fool you.” Inland marine is indeed a significant part of the insurance industry.
But, don't take my word for it. Jerry Theodorou, Conning's VP of research & publications, also referenced in the Best's article, clearly states, “In the aggregate, current results in inland marine appear healthy. Through the first half of 2013, inland marine has continued its historical track record of outperforming the broader property/casualty industry.” And, all indications are that we will continue to do so as we head into a new year.
I like to think that much of our success is due to the dedicated professionals that make up this industry. And, to the industry Association – IMUA – that continues to assist in member's professional development. IMUA has over the past several years dedicated itself to putting together programs that contribute to furthering knowledge for all member organizations, at all levels. And that's the key.
One only has to look at the IMUA's premiere event – the Annual Meeting – to see what I am speaking about. There are two educational programs running simultaneously – one for the more experienced and one for the less experienced – each equally as important. And both groups have opportunities to come together and network at general functions, as well as at the opening keynote session. Come to Austin May 18-21, 2014 to experience IMUA in action – you will definitely learn something.
For the past two and half years I have been proud to serve as this Association's Chairperson. It has been gratifying for me to see all the changes we have made to make this a better, more productive organization. This initial blog is just another example of how we can help better the careers of our members. Over the next few months we will be offering information on a variety of topics of interest to you. And shortly, you will also be able to follow us on Twitter and “like” us on our new Facebook page. So become involved and help make the IMUA even stronger.
We welcome your comments on each.
