Outlook for the P/C Insurance Industry and the Performance of the Inland Marine Line presented by Dr. Steven Weisbart, CLU, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, Insurance Information Institute - Dr. Weisbart focused on trends in profit and underwriting performance, market and economic forces driving growth, financial markets and the impact of rising interest rates, and catastrophic loss trends as well as the outlook for the 2014 hurricane season.

Renewable Energy: Transit and Builders Risk Exposures presented by John, Davison, Corporate Renewable Energy Underwriting Director, The Hartford, and David Ferebee, Vice President/Sales and Make ting, Lone Star Transportation -The presenters covered the types of renewable energy projects; project location, severe weather conditions and other hazards; high-valued equipment in transit; Construction phases and builders risk issuers; and engineering and loss control support.

Builders Risk and Multi-Story Wood Construction presented by Clay Thompson, Vice President, Rampart Construction; Johnny Yates, Director of Operations/Business Development, Rampart Construction; Kelley Smith, CSP, OHST, Technical Consultant II Risk Control Services, Liberty Mutual; Scott Lockyear, Senior Director, Design and Construction Services, WoodWorks; and Dennis Richardson, PE, CBO, CASp, Southwest Regional Manager of Codes and Standards, American Wood Council - The presenters discussed the evolution of wood construction, and projections for the future, types of wood frame construction materials, job site exposures, fire protection, underwriting and risk control perspective, and the general contractor safety program.

The Changing Roles of Players in Third Party Logistics presented by Brett Mears, President, Palmer Logistics; Robert Kirkwood, Principal, Robert T. Kirkwood, Inc.; and Jean Gardner; CEO, Central Analysis Bureau and Partner at Rivkins, LLP - The presenters emphasized the roles, responsibilities, and contractual issues; risk management challenges; impact on warehouse legal liability and motor truck cargo coverage; and lessons from losses as it pertains to third party logistics (3PL).

Lessons from Losses presented by the following presenters from the next generation of inland marine industry talent:  Bradley Cameron, Assistant Vice President Inland Marine, Markel Global Insurance; Lauren Harison, Inland Marine Underwriting Specialist, IMU; John Klinger; Vice President and Marine Underwriter, Aspen Specialty Insurance; and Danielle Volpe, Vice President, Property Facultative; XL Re America - The presenters examined actual losses in various inland marine classes of business from a variety of unique aspects, policy form, claims adjustment and information that might help eliminate or minimize similar future losses. The presenters shared cases on valuation; Superstorm Sandy and fine art; transportation and logistics; and delay in start-up, demolition, and renovation.

NAT/CAT Flood Issues presented by Andrew Castaldi, Senior Vice President, Swiss Re; Gerald Galloway, PE, Ph.D., Professor of Engineering, Department of Civil Works and Environmental Engineering, University of Maryland; and David Rogers, Vice President of Product Management, CoreLogic - The presenters provided an update on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and examined the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood map issues, new modeling for flash floods, vulnerability of the US dam system, climate change and flood concerns, and lessons from losses.
